Our SALUD Program
The SALUD program with Estudio Sampere has become a go-to for American, Swiss, and German medical students and professionals from various specialties who want to confidently communicate with their Spanish-speaking patients. This program is designed to ease you into the language and culture without feeling overwhelmed, letting you dive into this exciting new world at your own pace.
Over 4 incredible weeks, you’ll immerse yourself in an intensive Spanish course, followed by 3 weeks of personalized one-on-one lessons and 3 weeks of hands-on experience shadowing doctors in a local hospital. You’ll also explore Ecuador’s healthcare system through interactive lessons, visit both private and public health facilities, and enjoy living with a host family (single room, full board included). Plus, we’ve packed in cultural adventures like Saturday excursions and visits to vibrant museums and cultural centers to make sure you get the full experience!

Two goals
Estudio Sampere’s SALUD Program is all about two goals: boosting your Spanish skills to new heights and diving deep into the dynamic world of Ecuador’s healthcare system.
Cultural activities
During the intensive Spanish course, you’ll team up with international students from various backgrounds for cultural activities, while all your health-specific training will be delivered through personalized, one-on-one sessions.
Speaking Spanish
If you’re committed to mastering Spanish for your professional life, you can extend your course at Estudio Sampere until you feel fully confident and equipped to enjoy the experience to the max and easily connect with your Ecuadorian colleagues.

Students and observers
According to Ecuadorian medical regulations, students may only participate as observers and share their opinions with the healthcare personnel.
Accommodation
The price of the SALUD program in Cuenca includes accommodation with a host family on a full meal plan, so you won’t have to waste your time looking for a place to stay and can fully concentrate on learning and having a great time.

The structure of our Salud program
The Salud program in Cuenca includes 4 weeks of Spanish intensive course, 3 weeks of one-to-one lessons, 3 weeks of shadowing at a local hospital, Ecuadorian medical system lessons, visits to private and public health facilities.
Intensive course
In the first week of your stay, you’ll focus solely on Spanish classes and cultural activities.
This approach gives you a great introduction and helps you build confidence in speaking Spanish while immersing yourself in the local culture.
Additionally, this initial week lays the foundation, preparing you for the more intensive weeks ahead by building a solid understanding of the language and helping you become familiar with your surroundings.
Private lessons
From the second week onwards, you’ll receive additional one-on-one Spanish lessons focused on medical vocabulary and participate in medical observation sessions at different hospitals and local clinics.
You’ll also visit public and private healthcare facilities.
To support these visits, we ask that you contribute a $150 donation, which will be given to Ecuadorian foundations fighting cancer and other diseases.
The Ecuadorian medical system
The last three weeks will consist of shadowing at a local hospital, where you’ll gain firsthand experience and observe medical practices in a real-world setting.
You’ll also receive in-depth lessons on the Ecuadorian medical system, offering valuable insights into local healthcare protocols and practices.
In addition, you’ll visit both private and public health facilities to better understand the healthcare landscape and the differences between various medical environments.
