Studying a language is a challenge. But studying a language during the COVID-19 pandemic is even harder. How can I practice the language if I can’t go out or interact with people how I’d like to? This article gives you some tips on how to learn Spanish during confinement or in the new COVID-19 reality.
2020 has given us the chance to see all the series we said we didn’t have time for, or to see our favorites for the umpteenth time. Everyone likes series. We are expert consumers of series, from Twin Peaks or Alf to Money Heist, including the ageless Friends or The Office. We began by watching series on TV. But these days we prefer to choose when and what, which is why we use Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, etc.
Proposal: Why not discover a fantastic Spanish series or one filmed in Spanish, offered by these digital platforms? Relax and enjoy yourself while you improve your listening comprehension.
Although we have been far away or separated from our families and friends, the flood of video calls, Zoom groups, FaceTime chats, etc., has been excessive, right? Just like the endless reencounters, whether in person or online.
Proposal: If you’re sick of having video calls with your friends and family, you should look into taking an online or in-person course to learn Spanish with a Spanish teacher. 2×1: stop messing around with friends and family you’ve already talked to way too much during the COVID-19 lockdown and learn Spanish, such a lovely and practical language.
As we’ve all seen, these last few months have divided society into two major groups: ‘the chefs’ and ‘the jocks.’ Clearly, we had to do something while in COVID-19 lockdown at home for such a long time. And many have perfected their cooking skills and become true experts at chopping, sautéing, gelling, and using liquid nitrogen, among other techniques. Meanwhile, many others have preferred to work on their physique by doing exercises and workouts on their living room floor. This turns out to be just as uncomfortable as being in the gym, but at least nobody can see the pained look on your face.
Proposal: Read recipes and workouts in Spanish (there are a zillion websites on how to make a dish your mother-in-law will like and another zillion on how to get a body that’s a 10). This will improve your vocabulary on food as well as the parts of the body and verbs. Like this, you will not only be excellent in gastronomy and having a great bod, but also in Spanish!
Perhaps your crush or partner’s negationist theories don’t interest you. Or perhaps you’ve discovered after a few months of so much togetherness that your boyfriend/girlfriend is unbearable, even to you. It’s time to meet new people, discriminating singles just like you.
Proposal: Download any app, such as Tinder, Grindr, Meetic, etc., that is if you don’t already have them, to hook up. Extend the kilometers of the search, widening it until the users are named González or Moreno. Send flirty messages all over the place and improve your written Spanish. Spanish-speaking users of these applications are eager to meet foreigners who are learning Spanish and are sure to have no problem correcting you and helping with grammar.
